Building and working on this site I have noticed that it has brought in many visitors from outside Tavistock and even the UK to look through the pages and find out more about Tavistock. This weekend has seen a surge in visitors to the site searching for information on Goose Fair which is held on the 2nd Wednesday each year and which opens again next Wednesday 14th October 09. People visiting the site include locals, visitors, travelling workers, all have been interested in the different aspects of the fair such as how it affects the traffic, What time does it start, will it affect accommodation and so on. It has been very interesting to find out that so many people visit Goose Fair from far and wide and just how much they love to come and see the variety of shops and attractions here during the rest of the year. From this I have seen that the site needs to focus more on information about the town, more features on its attractions, its history. So armed with this information I'll be researching much more and posting more articles on the town and hopefully we will see more members sign up and add their own take on Tavistock, perhaps add their own history to the town? So Goose Fair is with us once more....
Goose Fair already seems to be building up in town, today saw many of the fun fair lorries come into town, huge rides being carried and now parked around the centre and off roads. It's always quite exciting for me at this time of year as the town takes on such a different look and sound and provides the indicator my family use as the start of winter and the count down to Xmas! This is my 21st Goose Fair and I still love to go out on the evening before and watch the various traders set-up along Plymouth road. Years ago we would take our 2 boys to the fun fair in the Bedford car park for the free rides at the start of the fair, does this still happen? Its out again then, early in the morning, walking down along Whitchurch road and finding the sock man who is always set-up on Abbey bridge. I always end up grabbing a few pairs, (they last a while too!), and sometimes a hat & glove set for winter, then I walk on and slowly browse through all the stalls. I'm hoping to get some good photo's this year, so look out in the galleries next week, photo's I most want are, Town Crier, I always seem to miss him, the fun fair wheel, (again), and a few early morning shots of the traders.
